A Sigh

Subject: A Sigh
If you heard a long, deep sigh that was mine. I made it through another winter and in good health and spring has turned my world so green and full of flowers that it can't possibly take it back. All of a sudden the summer birds have come - first the humming bird who was lured into the greenhouse by a bright red geranium, then came the catbird settling again into the thicket on stone wall, and finally an oriole, feeding on orange halves laid out on the deck. His colors are so startlingly bright that I need to look twice to be sure he is real. I hope he has a lady in attendance somewhere but she never shows up. And speaking of wives, the handsome love lorn pheasant who has been stalking the fields all winter has lured a wife into his territory. I took steps to get rid of the two feral cats which have been around for the past two or three years. They would surely have made short work of any baby pheasants. There are foxes and coyotes of course, but because they are larger, I hope they aren't as much of a threat. In a few minutes I am going on a bird walk in the big tract of woods managed by the Dept. of the Interior. I always mean to go there when the leaves are just starting to unfurl as then you can spot tanagers and grosbeaks. But you know what happens to good intentions so this planned walk is the lever which is getting me up and out. Hope this finds you well and full of spring time energy.
